25 Simple Winter Holiday Traditions To Try This Year

25 Simple Winter Holiday Traditions To Try This Year

1. Decorating the Tree: Gather the family to decorate the Christmas tree with ornaments and lights.

2. Holiday Movie Marathon: Have a cozy movie night featuring classic winter and holiday films.

3. Baking Day: Spend a day baking festive treats like cookies, gingerbread houses, or holiday-themed desserts.

4. Christmas Caroling: Spread cheer by caroling in your neighborhood or at local nursing homes.

5. Winter Wonderland Walk: Take a stroll through a decorated neighborhood or park with festive lights. And a hot chocolate in hand, of course.

6. Secret Santa Exchange: Organize a Secret Santa gift exchange among friends or family members.

7. DIY Ornaments: Create personalized ornaments as a family craft activity.

8. Volunteer Together: Give back to the community by volunteering at a local charity or food bank.

9. Game Night: Have a holiday-themed game night with board games or festive activities.

10. Holiday Cards: Design and send out personalized holiday cards to friends and family.

11. Ice Skating: Visit a local ice skating rink for a fun and festive activity. And leave with a sore bottom. Priceless.

12. Visit a Christmas Market: Explore a winter market for seasonal treats and handcrafted gifts.

13. Reading Holiday Stories: Share favorite holiday stories or start a new tradition of reading a Christmas book together.

14. Holiday Concert or Play: Attend a local performance of a holiday concert or play. Local colleges and orchestras have wonderful performances this time of year! Glorious!

15. Christmas Eve Pajamas: Gift the family matching pajamas to wear on Christmas Eve. See #17 for more details.

16. Hot Cocoa Bar: Set up a hot cocoa bar with various toppings for a cozy and delicious treat.

17. Family Photo Session: Capture the holiday spirit with a family photo session in coordinating outfits. Or not coordinating. Or coordinating Christmas pjs. The level of embarrassment is yours to personalize. ;)

18. Nature Hike: Enjoy the winter scenery with a family hike, followed by a warm drink. The warm, dry indoors are overrated, anyway.

19. Advent Calendar: Count down the days to Christmas with an advent calendar filled with treats or activities.

20. Write Letters to Santa: Have the kids write letters to Santa expressing their wishes.

21. Holiday Scavenger Hunt: Create a festive scavenger hunt around the house or neighborhood. The distance participants have to travel to search for items can depend solely on how much sanity you have left. I think “Get me a hot chocolate” is the best way to kick off the hunt! ;)

22. Themed Dinner Night: Have a themed dinner night with traditional holiday dishes. Or require ugly Christmas sweaters. Or reindeer antlers, elf ears, and Santa hats. Add a little festive charm.

23. Candlelight Dinner: Enjoy a special candlelit dinner at home with loved ones. I’m a sucker for Christmas Instrumental Jazz too.

24. Fireplace Stories: Gather around the fireplace for storytelling and sharing memories. Don’t have a fireplace? Even Netflix has a Fireplace Channel that adds to the ambiance. Also, if anyone has photos to share of a recent trip or uses Apple’s intuitive album function to automatically create a holiday slideshow, use AirPlay to project those phone photos straight to the big screen with no extra hardware!

25. New Year’s Resolutions: Reflect on the past year and set goals or resolutions for the upcoming one.

Remember to keep it simple. I’d rather spend the holidays with someone kind and fun than a snippy and grouchy perfectionist. Be realistic with your holiday expectations and just HAVE FUN. Get in a snowball fight once in a while. And because the ice caps are melting due to global warming, Amazon even sells fake snowballs.

See? Everyone can win.

Except the polar bears.

🐰 RESOURCE RABBIT is an online, woman-owned business 😍specializing in creating engaging counseling lessons and educational worksheets for school counselors, social workers, and educators. 🤓All content is created by a licensed mental health professional with 10+ years experience in the areas of: Education, School Social Work, Fostercare, Clinical Supervision, Outpatient Therapy and more! ✨

🚨 Here's a few reasons why RESOURCE RABBIT can help professionals--especially SCHOOL STAFF:

✨ 1. Time constraints: ⌚️School counselors and educators often have limited time to create and develop engaging lessons and activities while balancing their other responsibilities. They may struggle to find resources that are both effective and time-efficient.⏱

✨ 2. Lack of diverse content: 🧐Creating engaging and diverse lessons that cater to a wide range of student needs and learning styles can be a challenge. Educators often seek resources that address various topics and themes, such as conflict resolution, empathy, and communication skills, to ensure comprehensive support for their students.💙

✨ 3. Limited access to resources: 😞 School budgets may restrict access to a variety of counseling and educational resources, leaving counselors and educators searching for affordable and accessible options. 💰💸

✨ 4. Effectiveness and relevance: 🖍 Educators often seek resources that have been proven effective and align with academic standards and curricula. It's crucial to offer compelling solutions that meet these criteria and can be easily implemented in the classroom.

✨ 5. Engagement and student interest: 🥸 Finding activities that capture students' attention and maintain their engagement can be a challenge. Creating resources that are both educational and enjoyable will help educators cultivate an interactive learning environment.
