10 Ways To Stay Sane This Holiday Season
10 Ways To Stay Sane This Holiday Season
The winter holiday season is a time filled with festivities, celebrations, and cherished traditions. While it can be a busy period, it also provides an excellent opportunity for rest and relaxation when planned wisely. In this blog post, we will explore the importance of embracing winter holiday traditions and how they can help us establish a rhythm of rest and rejuvenation. By incorporating these practices into our lives, we can create moments of tranquility, connection, and self-care during this joyful season. Let's dive in and discover the beauty of restful holidays!
1. Routine and Predictability: Traditions provide a sense of routine and predictability, offering a break from the usual hustle and bustle.
2. Familiarity and Comfort: Engaging in familiar traditions can create a comforting and relaxing atmosphere, promoting a sense of security. Don’t overlook the impact you can have on the kids in your classroom or office. Create cozy spaces with warm blankets, soft lighting, gingerbread wax candles on a plate warmer (in a safe place and out of reach of littles’ hands) and comfy seating areas. Encourage reading, board games, or simply spending quality time together as a family or class. Don’t overlook the familiarity and comfort of classroom relaxation corners.
3. Quality Time with Loved Ones: Unplug to connect. In today's digital age, it's important to set boundaries and unplug from technology during the holidays. Create technology-free zones or dedicate specific times each day to disconnect and be fully present with loved ones. Many traditions involve spending time with family and friends, fostering a supportive and enjoyable environment. So why not give yourself more of the REAL connection your soul is longing for?
4. Nostalgia and Positive Memories: Reflecting on and participating in traditions often brings back positive memories, contributing to a sense of joy and relaxation.
5. Connection to Culture and Heritage: Traditions often connect individuals to their cultural or familial heritage, offering a sense of identity and belonging. Personally, I think a lot of wonderful memories involve food—especially recipes handed down from generation to generation. So, indulge in some comfort foods and yummy holiday recipes this season! (Shhh. Don’t tell my doctor. I won’t tell if you don’t tell.) But really! Winter is the perfect time for delicious comfort foods. Prepare and savor your favorite holiday treats, hot cocoa, or hearty soups. Crockpots, unite!
6. Mindful Presence: Following established traditions encourages being present in the moment, allowing for a break from stressors and worries. This may also mean you need a break from family dynamics and take a step outside for a breath of shockingly cold air. Sometimes, you really can have too many ‘cooks in the kitchen.’
7. Creative Expression: Engaging in festive activities and traditions provides an outlet for creative expression, promoting relaxation through artistic endeavors.
8. Shared Responsibilities: Traditions often involve shared responsibilities, distributing the workload and reducing individual stress.
9. Escape from Routine Stressors: By participating in holiday traditions, individuals can temporarily escape everyday stressors and responsibilities.
10. Joyful Atmosphere: The festive nature of Christmas traditions often brings joy and laughter, contributing to a positive and relaxed atmosphere. So, embrace the wonder of winter! As the snow falls and the air becomes crisp, take time to embrace the beauty of winter. Engage in activities like snowshoeing, building snowmen, or simply taking quiet walks in nature.
But something needs to be said for the many who experience heartbreak, loneliness, grief and loss, and estrangement during the holidays. If that’s you, read the next blog post. You’re not alone.

🚨 Here's a few reasons why RESOURCE RABBIT can help professionals--especially SCHOOL STAFF:
✨ 1. Time constraints: ⌚️School counselors and educators often have limited time to create and develop engaging lessons and activities while balancing their other responsibilities. They may struggle to find resources that are both effective and time-efficient.⏱
✨ 2. Lack of diverse content: 🧐Creating engaging and diverse lessons that cater to a wide range of student needs and learning styles can be a challenge. Educators often seek resources that address various topics and themes, such as conflict resolution, empathy, and communication skills, to ensure comprehensive support for their students.💙
✨ 3. Limited access to resources: 😞 School budgets may restrict access to a variety of counseling and educational resources, leaving counselors and educators searching for affordable and accessible options. 💰💸
✨ 4. Effectiveness and relevance: 🖍 Educators often seek resources that have been proven effective and align with academic standards and curricula. It's crucial to offer compelling solutions that meet these criteria and can be easily implemented in the classroom.
✨ 5. Engagement and student interest: 🥸 Finding activities that capture students' attention and maintain their engagement can be a challenge. Creating resources that are both educational and enjoyable will help educators cultivate an interactive learning environment.
