10 Ways To Practice Self-Care & Relaxation During This Holiday Season
I’m going to be blunt and direct. The answers in this blog post are so simple, yet profound. You will miss the good stuff if you don’t pause and reflect on how you can utilize these tips. Be honest with yourself. (And if you find yourself making excuses or exceptions after reading each idea…I think we know who the problem is…). Sorry, I was raised with good ol’ fashioned tough-love. ;)
1. Schedule Breaks: Block out specific times in your schedule for breaks, even if they’re short. Use this time to breathe and relax.
2. Delegate Tasks: Don’t hesitate to delegate responsibilities to others, whether it’s family members, colleagues, friends, or neighbors.
3. Set Realistic Expectations: Manage your own and others’ expectations about what can be achieved during the holiday season.
4. Mindfulness Practices: Incorporate mindfulness techniques such as deep breathing, meditation, or simple moments of reflection into your daily routine. Even catching snowflakes on your tongue is a silly thing you can get caught up in and forget about all your problems and worries for a moment. (We’re not too old for this, right? Never.)
5. Prioritize Self-Care & Self-Compassion: Make time for self-care activities like a warm bath, reading a book, or enjoying a cup of tea. Sometimes, what goes further is self-compassion.
6. Unplug: Dedicate specific times to disconnect from work-related emails and messages to focus on personal time and connections.
7. Create Traditions: Establish simple and enjoyable traditions that allow you to unwind and create special moments with loved ones. Who says you have to do the holidays like everyone else? Find your own rhythm.
8. Say No: Learn to say no to additional commitments or events that may contribute to overwhelm. That includes the month of and perhaps the month following. You’re only one person. You can’t be present everywhere.
9. Focus on Quality, Not Quantity: Instead of trying to do everything, concentrate on making meaningful connections and experiences with family and friends. Bless my mom. But she always tries to make our family time special by making way too many dishes and desserts. I really don’t know where that wake-up-at-4am-to-bake-ambition comes from. And honestly, I’m happy with just one assortment of Christmas cookie and I’m good. I’d rather have more quality time together or spend time decorating cookies more slowly—rather than try to become Christmas Cookie Factories. It ought to feel generally effortless—not too cumbersome. That’s when traditions and expectations don’t serve you anymore.
10. Plan Ahead: Break down tasks into manageable chunks and plan ahead to reduce last-minute stressors.
Remember, taking care of yourself is crucial during busy times. It’s okay to prioritize your well-being. And honestly, like I said, this list is simple and basic. Yet, PROFOUND if you’re willing to exercise these tips this holiday season. You might even find you can end up on the Nice List. ;)

🚨 Here's a few reasons why RESOURCE RABBIT can help professionals--especially SCHOOL STAFF:
✨ 1. Time constraints: ⌚️School counselors and educators often have limited time to create and develop engaging lessons and activities while balancing their other responsibilities. They may struggle to find resources that are both effective and time-efficient.⏱
✨ 2. Lack of diverse content: 🧐Creating engaging and diverse lessons that cater to a wide range of student needs and learning styles can be a challenge. Educators often seek resources that address various topics and themes, such as conflict resolution, empathy, and communication skills, to ensure comprehensive support for their students.💙
✨ 3. Limited access to resources: 😞 School budgets may restrict access to a variety of counseling and educational resources, leaving counselors and educators searching for affordable and accessible options. 💰💸
✨ 4. Effectiveness and relevance: 🖍 Educators often seek resources that have been proven effective and align with academic standards and curricula. It's crucial to offer compelling solutions that meet these criteria and can be easily implemented in the classroom.
✨ 5. Engagement and student interest: 🥸 Finding activities that capture students' attention and maintain their engagement can be a challenge. Creating resources that are both educational and enjoyable will help educators cultivate an interactive learning environment.
